The town of Salento is located at the heart of the Eje Cafetero in the department of Quindio, Colombia. Don’t let the size of this town fool you, although small, there is plenty to do here to keep you busy for a few days. If you have the time, Salento is not to be missed. You will be able to see a very different Colombia from the busy cities or the Caribbean coastline.
Salento is a small town located in the heart of the Colombian Coffee Region. This small town is packed with colorful buildings, charming streets and cute cafes everywhere you turn. During the weekend you will find the town very lively with lots of people and lots of music. One of the main reasons why you are probably in Salento is to visit the famous Cócora Valley! A green lush valley as far as the eye can see.
The time has arrived… we are packing our bags and leaving Ecuador to head over to Colombia! Colombia was one of our top destinations that we wanted to visit when we started planning our world trip. Our route has changed several times and now we find ourselves in Otavalo, Ecuador. Great! But how do we get to Colombia from here? No worries, we have completed this trip and it was really a breeze. It was actually one of the easiest border crossings we have ever done in our 22 months of travel!
Today we woke up to hundreds of birds chirping away in the middle of the Andean Cloud Forest. We got up from our bed and walked out to the terrace to enjoy the views... nothing but lush and green as far as our eyes could see. We jumped in the hammock, sat back and enjoyed the wild noises of the Mindo Cloud Forest.
The year is almost coming to an end and it’s about that time you take a look at 2018 with the great memories of how far you’ve come. It’s also the perfect time to look forward to 2019 as a fresh new start. I personally grew in many ways in 2018, but the most important thing I learned was how to get what I want. Whether you are looking for financial freedom, your dream career, travel plans, become fit or simply be healthier.

You’ve decided to take the leap of faith, leave everything behind and embark on this new journey you’ve been dreaming about and planning for ages! But what is next? Packing!!!! Where do you even begin??…One thing is for sure, you will spend countless hours and days thinking about what you want to take on your trip. As much as you try preparing yourself for this long term trip, you will never feel fully prepared.
When traveling long term we sometimes forget how to truly enjoy our travels. We’ve been on the road for 1.5 years and we’ve had to step back and press the refresh button because believe it or not, traveling can also become a routine. It can really burn you out. So how do we avoid this?!
Isn't it crazy how technology has completely changed the way we do things? I firmly believe that if it wasn't for all the apps out there, traveling would be very hard! Think about it....Airbnb, GPS, Uber, all of this is handled right from your phone.
Looking at a map and selecting all the locations you want to visit is the fun part. Putting down dates and making plans is also really exciting. Then reality hits… you need to make a budget and understand what it costs to travel.
Before we started traveling, we had a lot of misconceptions of what long term traveling actually was. We were worried it would cost a lot, be difficult, or even dangerous.
"Travel makes one modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world."
